When The House in the Cerulean Sea first came out, it took the reading world by storm. This novel is the epitome of a cozy fantasy, with characters you can’t help but love and a story that feels like a warm hug. If you’re a fan like I am, I have great news: there’s a sequel coming in 2024! Here’s what you need to know about The House in the Cerulean Sea series by T.J. Klune.

What is The House in the Cerulean Sea about?
This heartwarming fantasy novel follows Linus Baker, a rule-following caseworker who’s been assigned to investigate an orphanage for magical children located on a small island.
But the orphanage’s enigmatic caretaker – and the six potentially dangerous children that reside there – might just change his outlook on life.
This story carries the overarching message that everyone deserves love, regardless of whether or not they fit the mold that society deems “normal”. It’s also about learning you who are and finding what makes life meaningful to you.
This cozy fantasy story is threaded with magic and warmth, with a setting that’s mostly grounded in the real world and a wildly unique cast of characters.
It has strong found-family vibes and celebrates love in all its forms. It was one of my favorite reads of 2020, and I highly recommend it!
If you loved this book, be sure to check out Legends and Lattes – it’s a cozy fantasy with a similar vibe!

Will there be a sequel to The House in the Cerulean Sea?
Yes! In late 2023, T.J. Klune confirmed that a sequel is coming in September 2024. This sequel, titled Somewhere Beyond the Sea, returns to the remote Marsyas Island setting and takes place after the events of The House in the Cerulean Sea.
But this time, the story is from Arthur Parnassus’ perspective (the headmaster of the magical orphanage). I personally cannot wait to revisit these wonderful characters! This might be a perfect time for a Cerulean Sea reread, too. 🙂

This is sort of like a Pinocchio reimagining, but with a dystopian, science fiction spin. It’s about a found-family of robots – plus one human – whose safety is put at risk when they find and repair an unfamiliar android.
