Happy pub day to Stay Awake by Megan Goldin! (Than Happy pub day to Stay Awake by Megan Goldin! (Thanks @stmartinspress for the gifted ARC) I enjoyed Goldin’s book The Escape Room, and I’ve heard great things about The Night Swim. So I was excited to dive into her newest book! First off, here’s a synopsis: “Liv Reese wakes up in the back of a taxi with no idea where she is or how she got there.” She goes to her apartment, only to find someone else lives there. Then, she finds a bloody knife in her pocket. On her hands, the words ‘STAY AWAKE’ are written in ink - the same words written in blood at a recent murder scene. Was Liv involved? And why does her life suddenly look so different than what she remembers? This book has/is: -a fabulous premise (similar to the movie Memento)
-multiple POVs and timelines
-an absorbing plot
-set in New York City This book is really easy to fall into, with very ‘readable’ writing and a twisty plot that keeps you guessing. I also liked getting the POV of the detectives that were looking into the case, and I enjoyed Halliday’s character. I will say, I found parts of the ending a bit obvious. Also, a few things didn’t end up getting explained in the end (unless I missed them). But overall, this is an addicting psychological thriller that’s a lot of fun to read! Rating: 4⭐️ (Out today) 💬 What’s the last book you enjoyed??

Happy pub day to my #currentread , The Kingdoms Happy pub day to my #currentread , The Kingdoms of Savannah! (Thanks @celadonbooks for the gifted ARC) I rarely start a book without first looking it up on Goodreads, but this was surprise bookmail and I decided to go into it without any expectations. So far, I’m really liking it! Without getting too much into the details, this story is about the lesser-known sinister underbelly of the city of Savannah. It’s also about a family that’s ingrained in Savannah’s elite society - and a mystery to be solved. The writing really draws you in, and you can’t help but wonder where the story is going. I’m excited to pick it back up again tonight! This book releases TODAY, 7/19 🙌 💬 What are you reading right now? Are you liking it?

Happy almost pub day to my #currentread , Nothing Happy almost pub day to my #currentread , Nothing But the Truth by Holly James! (Thanks @duttonbooks for the gifted ARC) I was in the mood for an inspirational story, so I decided to pick this one up! It has an awesome premise - similar to Liar Liar. A young woman named Lucy wakes up on her 30th birthday and finds she cannot tell a lie. Not only that, but she finds she’s no longer compelled to undergo her rigorous and uncomfortable daily beauty regimen. The inability to lie not only complicates her love life, but also her job as a publicist (where she’s up for a big promotion). So far, I’m really enjoying the characters, and Lucy’s job is fascinating. I’m excited to see where this story goes! This book releases this TUESDAY, 7/12 🙌 💬 What’s the next book you’re planning to pick up?

What a fabulous #bookmail surprise! (Thanks @grand What a fabulous #bookmail surprise! (Thanks @grandcentralpub for the gifted book) I love when book mail comes with fun little gifts that are related to the book. These Impossible Things came with a tin of loose leaf tea, a packet of tissues, and woven friendship bracelets. It makes me even more excited to read this! I’m a big fan of books centered around coming-of-age and friendship, and I’m especially drawn to the story’s focus on women with different life experiences/upbringings than my own. In this case, it’s about 3 modern Muslim girls growing up while grappling with the expectations that surround them. I’m hoping to start it in the next few days! Here’s a little bit about the book: “A razor‑sharp debut novel of three best friends navigating love, sex, faith, and the one night that changes it all. It’s always been Malak, Kees, and Jenna against the world. Since childhood, under the watchful eyes of their parents, aunties and uncles, they’ve learned to live their own lives alongside the expectations of being good Muslim women. With growing older, the delicate balancing act between rebellion and religion [becomes] increasingly difficult to navigate. These Impossible Things is a paean to youth and female friendship—and to all the joy and messiness love holds.” This book is available now! 💬 What’s a genre you want to read more of?
