Hi, I’m Taylor!

I’m from Seattle, but recently moved to Austin, TX. (Bring on the taco trucks & sunshine!)

I’ve been part of the Bookstagram community for 3+ years now (previously known as SilverFire Books), and I’ve loved every minute of it!

When I’m not working, you can usually find me curled up with a book and a cup of iced coffee. I’m also a big fan of dogs, chocolate, and ridiculous dance moves.

⭐️ MINI REVIEWS ⭐️ I realized I have a bun ⭐️ MINI REVIEWS ⭐️ I realized I have a bunch of books I’ve read in the past but haven’t posted here! Aaand one of these is one of my favorite books ever (The Bone Clocks). So I thought I’d share a few mini reviews 😊 . NINTH HOUSE by Leigh Bardugo 👉 This book is a whole heap of delicious dark academia (set at Yale!) with a side of ghosties. So much fun, with characters you can root for! (4.5/5) . THE BONE CLOCKS by David Mitchell 👉 An interwoven patchwork of incredible storytelling. Spanning through many decades, countries, and interconnecting characters, this unusual tour de force brings literary fiction and fantasy together in a magical fusion. I absolutely loved it! (5/5 stars) . BROKEN HARBOR by Tana French 👉 Sadly, this one disappointed me a bit. After loving the first three books in the Dublin Murder Squad series, this one dragged in the middle, and I couldn’t get attached to the new main character. I’m still glad I read this, but I’m hoping the fifth book brings the magic back! (3/5) . THE RULES OF MAGIC by Alice Hoffman 👉 This book is a companion to Practical Magic, which I’ve never actually read (but I’ve seen the movie!). I loved the historical aspect (it’s set in New York in the 1960s), and the characters were phenomenal. This story is perfect when you’re in the mood for something witchy (but not too dark). Don’t Look for Me is absolutely one of the best thrillers I’ve read this year. It was engaging from page one, with deeply flawed and well-rounded characters. And of course, I loved the mysterious small-town, from the diner to the inn to the sprawling woods.🌲 . It was so easy to get lost in the story – especially with the alternating points of view. I think I read about 200 pages in one sitting. Each clue and shocking revelation built up to a satisfying (and surprising!) ending. . I hadn’t read anything by Wendy Walker before, and I’m now realizing what a big mistake that is. I can’t wait to check out her other books! . Don’t Look for Me is an emotional and adrenaline-fueled thriller, perfect for fans of Gilly Macmillan, Megan Miranda, and Kimberly McCreight. When I sat down and started reading True Story, I immediately wanted to keep reading...and keep reading. It’s so gripping. . I was blown away by this genre-bending debut novel. It’s the kind of book that’s nearly impossible to explain what it’s about. (But I’ll paste the synopsis in the comments so you have an idea 🙃). It’s also the kind of book that ends up being so GOOD that you want to shove a copy into everybody’s hands. . It was engrossing, written in different formats - including film scripts, transcripts, and more - and swapping between different genres. (I know, that sounds like it might be distracting, but I didn’t feel like it was at all!). It was such a unique way to tell a story. The narrative, the writing, the characters...absolutely brilliant. Highly recommended! . 🪓 Did you ever read Hatchet as a kid?? (Thank y 🪓 Did you ever read Hatchet as a kid?? (Thank you @littlebrownyoungreaders for the gifted ARC) . I was drawn to The Canyon’s Edge because it was compared to Hatchet, and y’all know I love a good survival story! . This is a quick read that packs an emotional punch. I read it in one sitting. In fact, I don't even remember coming up for air the entire time, it was so engrossing. I loved the simple, lovely writing. It's very poetic - which makes sense, since most of it's written in different forms of verse. . 🌵The desert setting was as brutal as it was beautiful. I couldn't help but root for Nora as she grappled with both inner turmoil (over the tragic loss of her mother) and exterior adversaries like poisonous snakes and dehydration. 🏜 . So unique, raw, and gripping, The Canyon's Edge is well worth the read. Highly recommended, especially for fans of wilderness survival stories like Hatchet! . ⭐️ PUB DAY REVIEW ⭐️ (Thank you @atriabook ⭐️ PUB DAY REVIEW ⭐️ (Thank you @atriabooks for the gifted ARC!) . Anxious People is one of 2020's most anticipated releases (it’s been ALL over Bookstagram!). . It's a dark comedy that centers around a group of people (and a would-be bank robber) during a hostage situation. Except, the situation isn't quite what you think it is. But one thing's for certain: each character has their own anxieties, secrets, and dreams. Because that's what it is to be human. . I love how Fredrik Backman just gets people. He has this innate understanding of human nature, and knows just how to describe our deepest, most honest thoughts and feelings. . Anxious People was somehow light-hearted and serious all at once. Backman manages to cover difficult subjects like anxiety and depression from an angle that encourages hope and healing. . One of my favorite things about Anxious People was the way it kept subverting your expectations. This story was full of surprises! . My only minor issue was that it felt a bit choppy at times. The chapters would flip back and forth between characters a lot, which kept me engrossed most of the time - but every once in a while, it took me out of the story for a moment. Otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed this darkly funny and poignant book! It made me laugh, it made my heart ache, and it made me feel seen. . 😍 COVER LOVE 😍 (Thank you @harperbooks for t 😍 COVER LOVE 😍 (Thank you @harperbooks for the gifted copy!) . Can we just take a moment to appreciate how gorgeous this cover is?! And it’s even MORE beautiful in real life. 😱 . All I needed to know about this book: 1. it’s set in the wilderness, and 2. it was blurbed by Emily St. John Mandel. I was sold. . The New Wilderness does have some Station Eleven vibes, but instead of being a sweeping epic that covers different times, places, and characters, this focuses on one family in mainly one place: a large expanse of untouched land, separate from the failing, environmentally ruined world outside its borders. . I loved that it explored the connection between humans and the natural world around us, while also focusing on the complicated relationship between a mother and daughter. . There were just a couple reasons I didn’t rate this higher: some of the characters’ actions seemed out of place/didn’t make sense, and I felt like the plot meandered at times. But overall, I enjoyed it - the writing is beautiful and so is the setting! .
