I love locked-room mysteries, so when I heard about Shiver by Allie Reynolds, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. Even better, it’s set on a snowy mountain, so the atmosphere was perfect for winter reading!
When ex-snowboarder Milla is invited back to the French Alps for a reunion with some friends from her competition days, she’s intrigued enough to show up. It’s been years since they’ve all seen each other, and the remote mountain resort they’re staying at brings back lots of memories: both good and bad. It also dredges up a whole load of secrets, especially surrounding the mysterious death of one of their friends 10 years ago. But things aren’t always as they seem, and it turns out someone will do anything to get the truth.

Shiver by Allie Reynolds: My Thoughts
This book was SO GOOD. If you’re a mystery/thriller lover, you need this in your life! It’s a perfect story to curl up with on a chilly night.
Shiver is a locked-room mystery, where a group of people are essentially stuck in one place and have to figure out who the culprit is before it’s too late. The setting was on point: a snowy, remote mountain chateau, both beautiful and eerie at the same time.
The story switches between the present and 10 years ago, during that fateful snowboarding competition when everything went wrong. I loved getting glimpses into the past, slowly revealing how the characters got to where they are in the present moment.
This had everything I look for in a thriller: great writing, unique setting, interesting characters, tense plot, and an addictive mystery at its core.
Overall, Shiver is a completely engrossing, wintry thriller you won’t be able to put down. Highly recommended!
