With a chill in the air and spooky season just around the corner, the autumn season conjures up images of the strange and eerie. So today, I wanted to share some of my most-anticipated new fall 2024 fantasy books – perfect for fall reading! This list features a wide range of genres, from cozy fantasy to Gothic romantasy and spooky dark fantasy.
Page-Turning New Fantasy Books Coming This Fall
I don’t know about you, but I’m very much a mood reader when it comes to fantasy novels. There’s such a huge variety in the vibes they give off, and I find I enjoy my reading experience even more when I match that vibe with my current mood!
Seasonality plays into this as well. I prefer cozy fantasy and campus-based books in September, and spookier stories or dark fantasy in October. November can go either way. 🙂

If you’re looking for a spicy romantasy book with a darker side, check this one out! Phantasma is about a necromancer (named Ophelia) and a phantom who must work together in order to win a harrowing competition set in a dark manor.
The competition’s prize: a single wish, granted – but most of the competitors won’t survive. When Ophelia finds out her sister has entered, she has no choice but to enter herself in order to save her.

Somewhere Beyond the Sea by T.J. Klune (The House in the Cerulean Sea #2)

This sequel to the bestselling cozy fantasy novel The House in the Cerulean Sea returns to the remote Marsyas Island setting and takes place after the events of the previous novel.
But this time, the story is from Arthur Parnassus’ perspective (the headmaster of the magical orphanage). I personally cannot wait to revisit these wonderful characters!
