The Siren by Katherine St. John (Book Review)

It’s starting to feel like summer here in Austin already, so I was excited to dive into one of my most anticipated summer reads: The Siren by Katherine St. John!

First, a quick synopsis: “From Katherine St. John, author of The Lion’s Den, comes another sublimely escapist thriller: When dangerously handsome megastar Cole Power hires his ex-wife, Stella Rivers, to act in his son’s film, he sparks a firestorm on an isolated island that will unearth long-buried secrets — and unravel years of lies.”

*I received this book for free from the publisher (Grand Central Publishing) in exchange for an honest review.

The Siren by Katherine St. John: My Thoughts

If you’re looking for a juicy, scandalous read: The Siren is it! It’s been described as a cross between Desperate Housewives and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins-Reid, with a slow-burn locked room mystery feel (due to the isolated island setting).

It’s got long-buried secrets, A-list (and fallen-from-grace) movie stars, and all the tropical island vibes. It definitely made me want to take a vacation ASAP! I’m craving being surrounded by sandy beaches, warm sunshine, and ocean views.

It’s an escape, but it’s also a little deeper than just a ‘popcorn’ read. It has strong character development, with characters you’ll love (and loathe), and there’s definitely some thriller/suspense aspects to it.

It also has strong ties to the #metoo movement, which adds a layer of realness to the story, since sexual harassment and assault is so rampant in the film industry.

Overall, The Siren is a fun, thrilling read that’s perfect for summer! With all the elements of an addicting beach read, this book is sure to be a hit this summer.
