I love retellings when they’re done right, so I jumped on the chance to read Pride and Premeditation by Tirzah Price! It’s a spin on the Jane Austen classic, Pride and Prejudice – but with a mystery at its core.
First, a quick synopsis: “Perfect for fans of the Lady Janies and Stalking Jack the Ripper, the first book in the Jane Austen Murder Mysteries series is a clever retelling of Pride and Prejudice that reimagines the iconic settings, characters, and romances in a thrilling and high-stakes whodunit.”
*I received this book for free from the publisher (Epic Reads/Harper Teen) in exchange for an honest review.

Pride and Premeditation by Tirzah Price: My Thoughts
This was such a fun idea for a retelling! I had such a good time reading this book. Sure, it’s not historically accurate, but that didn’t bother me. You have to go into it knowing that’s not the point of the story.
It was different enough from the original Pride and Prejudice that it felt fresh, but it was still comforting to revisit some of my favorite characters (though they’re in somewhat different roles this time around!).
I loved the passion and grit Lizzie had, despite everything about society telling her that her dreams were unrealistic. She wasn’t afraid to fight for what she believed in, and she was easy to root for.
The romance storyline felt a little rushed, but overall this was an enjoyable and adventurous story that fans of Pride & Prejudice will savor. Plus, it’s the beginning of a series, so there’s even more reason to get excited!
