Dark Roads by Chevy Stevens: My Thoughts
I really liked the concept here, and the characters felt like real people. I also love a wilderness setting, especially with a small town element, and we had that in spades here!
The way the plot was laid out was unique, too – broken out into three parts with different timelines. I will say though, I’m not sure the execution worked for me 100% of the time. I found my interest drifting at times – there was something missing that I can’t quite put my finger on. The atmosphere in the beginning really hooked me, but it didn’t feel quite as engaging during other parts of the story. But the end picked back up again with lots of action and tension.
Maybe my expectations were a bit too high, since on paper this book had so many things I look for in thrillers. But Dark Roads is a solid thriller. Please keep in mind that I still enjoyed this book overall, and with such high ratings on Goodreads, I’d recommend still checking it out for yourself!
