I’m from Seattle, but recently moved to Austin, TX. (Bring on the taco trucks & sunshine!)

I’ve been part of the Bookstagram community for 3+ years now (previously known as SilverFire Books), and I’ve loved every minute of it!

When I’m not working, you can usually find me curled up with a book and a cup of iced coffee. I’m also a big fan of dogs, chocolate, and ridiculous dance moves.

🌟PUB DAY REVIEW🌟 (Thanks @randomhouse for th 🌟PUB DAY REVIEW🌟 (Thanks @randomhouse for the gifted book!) I must be living under a rock, because this was my first ever Jodi Picoult read! Wish You Were Here is set during the pandemic. It’s about a woman named Diana who travels to the Galápagos Islands alone - on what should have been a romantic trip with her boyfriend. But he’s an ER doctor, and stays behind in New York to help at the hospital. While parts of this center around a trip to a beautiful island, I wouldn’t consider it a “breezy” read. There are deep discussions about trauma and identity, and it delves into the start of the pandemic - including the isolation, fear, and loss. But the story also has hope, kindness, and love. Read if you like: -remote island settings -fully-formed, flawed characters -emotional stories -unique plots Plus, the main character works in the art world, which I found fascinating. There were a couple parts of the story that frustrated me, but overall I was impressed by the storytelling - I legitimately gasped out loud multiple times 😱 I definitely recommend this one (especially if you’re looking for something you definitely haven’t read before)! Rating: 4.25⭐️ (out today) 💬 Have you read anything by Jodi Picoult? This was the first book of hers that I’ve read, and I definitely want to read more!

I’ve been savoring my way through Braiding Sweetgrass. It’s written by an Indigenous woman & botanist, and discusses the relationship between humans and nature - and how plants and animals are our oldest teachers. I’m learning so much from it. 🌱 💬 Have you read any nonfiction books or memoirs this year? Any favorites I should check out?

🧸 My most recent read, puppy Sasha & the teddy 🧸 My most recent read, puppy Sasha & the teddy bear she destroyed in 15 minutes 😂 (Thanks @randomhouse for the gifted book!) Nanny Needed is about a woman who comes across a flyer advertising the need for a nanny - “the utmost discretion required”. She’s desperately in debt, so she applies. But things don’t exactly go as expected. I’ll start by saying I had mixed thoughts on this one. It was twisty and dramatic, with a peek into the lives of a ridiculously wealthy family. But it also lacked some character development, and you really have to suspend disbelief for parts of the plot. This story is compulsively readable and the penthouse setting was cool. But overall, it didn’t have the depth or believability (for me) to be more than an “ok” read. But a lot of people have loved it, so you may want to give it a try - especially if you love thrillers! Rating: 3⭐️ (out now!) 💬 Do you have any pets?

📖 Do you have any auto-buy authors?? After The 📖 Do you have any auto-buy authors?? After The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Vampires came out last year, Grady Hendrix became one of mine! I didn’t love his newest book quite as much, but still really enjoyed it 👏 Like all of Hendrix’s stories (at least the ones I’ve read so far), this was a very unique read. It definitely gives off the ‘80’s slasher’ vibes it promises - but with a modern twist. While I didn’t love it as much as his previous book, it still had that Hendrix feel to it that makes a story compulsively readable. What I liked: -interesting plot (if a little predictable at the end, but only some parts) -unique voice -epistolary story style with letters, articles, etc. scattered throughout (this is my jam 👏) A few parts did feel a bit repetitive, and I wanted to get to know the side characters better. But overall, it was twisty, action packed, and dug deeper than just a story looking to scare, with themes ranging from the effects of trauma to society’s obsession with killers. Definitely worth reading if you’re a horror fan! (Rating: 4.25⭐️)
